Adopting siblings

This week, we caught up with Adopter Ryan, he and his partner adopted siblings a few years' ago. We spoke about their journey and how it has been for them. The challenges that they have faced and the incredible adventures that they have had.

He's back!

The 10 hour day

The 10 hour day, this was a day early on when our Little Dude tested Daddy to the very limits. We talk about how the day went from bad to worse to then being a great day for our family. It wasn’t an easy day to go through, but hopefully, it will be a day that others can relate to or use as a tool to understand future behaviours.

The early days

We were asked to chat about the early days of little dude moving in, it took me off on quite the tangent of information, but hopefully gives some ideas of what life was like. I share some things that we got wrong and discuss what could be done differently. Hopefully, it will be helpful to others who are starting their journeys.

Would you adopt another child?

We are asked this question a lot, it is a really lovely question and brings with it so many other questions!!! :-) 

 

We look at this question and our journey as a family, it has had highs and lows and challenges in between, but we think that it has all lead to the right end result.

Regression

Interview with Janelle Malony

I caught up with Janelle Malony who is the author of Un-adoptable? Faith beyond foster care. She is a fellow adopter of an older child, we got together and shared our experiences and asked some questions. It was great to speak with another adopter who shared a lot of similar experiences and then get to see the differences too.

Discipline, where do you draw the line?

We received a great listener question on how do you know if bad behaviour is not connected to previous trauma and how do you then manage it? We are going to delve into some behaviour management tools and advice, we will then look at things that we have done and indeed the mistakes that we made. Adopting when you have a birth child

I've been speaking with Charlie and Ann-Marie who have a birth child and are going through the adoption process.
